Good evening,

The commonly-viewed California Snow Water Content Reports relate to basic
river drainages that water managers watch as indicators. For some, it’s a
bit difficult to relate these areas to the PCT. There are three charts:

The *Southern Section* chart includes drainages of the Kern, Mono, Owens,
and San Joaquin Rivers, and it goes up as far as Yosemite. This is
typically what PCT thru-hike aspirants need to look at. With the Kern
River being near Kennedy Meadows it mostly forms the southern edge of
snowpack that might cause hikers some concern.

The *Central Section* chart is for drainages of the Yuba, Tahoe, Merced,
and Walker Rivers. This section is generally from Yosemite up to Sierra
City. It is moderately interesting in a heavy snow year, but most hikers
are there early-July only seeing the tail-end of the snowpack season, and
by then they are rather experienced with snowpack.

The* Northern Section* is for drainages of the Feather, Truckee, and
Trinity Rivers. Generally this section begins about Sierra City and goes
to the OR border. Snowpack in this section is of little importance because
melting will be well-advanced before a hiker even reaches it.
