[pct-l] Old PCT Route

Good evening, Mark,

One of the biggest – and best – changes made to the PCT routing over the
years was in N. California.  The Oregon Skyline Trail (OST) originally only
went from Timberline to Crater Lake, then later it was extend north to the
Cascade Locks and straight south from Crater Lake, past Soda Mountain, and
directly south to the Cal/Or border.  To meet the end of that trail at the
border, the California portion continued north, where it now veers west
toward Castella, and continued past the east slopes of Mt. Shasta to join
the end of the OST.  That route was much shorter, but it certainly missed
the great mountains west of I-5.
