[pct-l] To carry or not to carry

I slept with my food too.  That's not to say that I wasn't careful.  I carried Opsaks to cut down on the smell, I went no-cook, I kept my backpack free of wrappers and was always concious of my surroundings.  I probably hung my food about 15 times or so.   I am not sure if I would advise others to sleep with their food but it works for me.

The most dangerous experience I had in sleeping with my food was one morning I woke up and a small mouse was scrambling above my head (on my Echo II bug shelter); it was one of the few stretches I hiked without an Opsak.

I can only claim about 2600 miles on the PCT, all in California, but also
slept with food.  It's just so cuddly!

I'll admit I didn't even use a canister both times through the Sierras; kept
my food in my pack beside my tent and slept with one ear quite wide open.
Certainly may not have been the smartest move, but I think it's quite
common.
