[pct-l] To carry or not to carry

I can only claim about 2600 miles on the PCT, all in California, but also
slept with food.  It's just so cuddly!

I'll admit I didn't even use a canister both times through the Sierras; kept
my food in my pack beside my tent and slept with one ear quite wide open.
Certainly may not have been the smartest move, but I think it's quite
common.
