[pct-l] Gatewood Cape

I have been thinking about the Gatewood Cape too. I would also buy the bug net tent that goes under the Gatewood. I haven't bought yet because I am waiting to for the Gatewood to be made out of Cuben cloth for the ultimate weight savings.

I really like a poncho because it doubles as a pack cover and is one more warmth layer when necessary.

Another item that I looked at was Zpack's Cuben poncho that doubles as a ground cloth. We tried using our tyvek ground cloth as a poncho unsuccessfully near the end of our CDT hike. The tyvek was soft and slimey and stuck to itself when wet, probably because it was well used by that time.

Does anyone know what kind and when Gossamer Gear will have shelters on their website again?

In my quest to lighten up & simplify, I have ended up using a poncho & bivy instead of a larger tarp or tent. This is generally unsatisfactory in a heavy, driving rain. So I have been looking at Six Moon Designs Gatewood Cape. Is there anyone out there who has one & either currently uses or no longer uses this? If not, why not. I would expect some condensation & to use a ground cloth.

TIA,
