Recent storm activity in the North Cascades produced closure of State Route 20 over a 5 mile stretch west of Rainy Pass. That has been cleared. Washouts of alluvial fans below Powder Mountain made foot travel difficult between Rock Pass and Woody Pass in the PCT section north of Harts Pass that is north of Rainy Pass.

The alluvial fans provide difficult footing but can be travelled most easily by following the tracks set by other hikers. They have kicked off much of the loose surface rock. Most of the washouts can be passed close to the PCT track. Hiking poles can be used to improve footholds for the person who follows you.

The deepest washout, the middle one, requires a downslope detour of some 40m/120feet. Keeping to previous tracks will make the descent easier. The crossing is easiest where the otherwise sharp rim of the washout has been breached to allow easy access and egress.

Otherwise, the Hart's to the border section has no blowdowns or other significant obstructions. There are huckleberries after Hopkins Pass. Have a sweet time.
