I shouldn't have worried so much. TrailHacker is alive.
He provides the following information. Hopefully he'll be home soon
to post whatever I forgot or misunderstood.
1. The Spanish Needle creeks, according to the ranch owner of the
area, look like they would in September after a hot dry summer. But
there was water.
2. In fact, there was water everywhere there was supposed to be water.
3. It was 27 degrees one day leaving Tehachapi and 80 the other day
in Kennedy Meadows. He thinks this seems a little backwards.
4. There was almost no snow at all on Olancha pass. Almost no snow
between Kennedy Meadows and Trail Pass where he exited. Mt. Langley
looked like it didn't have much snow left on it.
5. He saw a fighter jet about 100 feet directly overhead flying
upside down. He could see the guy in the cockpit.
He's hiking down the road (it's still closed) to some resort with
Lilac in the name. I can't find it doing a google search. He's going
to stay there tonight. It's 12 miles from the Trail Pass trailhead
down that road. Hopefully he can figure out transportation home. If
anyone is going to Kickoff on Friday and is in the area of Lone Pine,
maybe you could help him get part way to Santa Barbara and I can pick
him up somewhere like Mojave? If so, I can send you his phone number
or give him yours, if there is cell service at that resort. Otherwise
hopefully someone will see his forelorn figure continuing down the
lonely road to Lone Pine.
