Nathan,
I hiked with a couple, Gangles and Steiner, in 2010 and they used their
Amazon Prime account to resupply quite a bit - they have Mountain House
survival kits that basically come with breakfast and dinners and dessert
that costs quite a bit cheaper than if you were to buy them in the store
(but still more expensive than the ramen, liptons and mac&cheese that are
such thru-hiker staples). They also ordered snacks, energy bars, and other
stuff all through the Prime account. Worked fine as long as you make sure
that your resupply point can receive UPS as well as USPS (AKA no PO's). You
have no control over the method of shipping but they will almost always
ship UPS.
It was a pretty nifty way of doing things and they were happy with it. I
also have an Amazon Prime account and did use it a few times to send a
Mountain House or special treats that I wasn't able to get in regular
grocery stores.
