Here's a third option for the PCT closure (mile 390.3 to 394) for the
Mountain Yellow-legged frog closure. This option is a similar distance
to the unofficial detour, has really nice views and avoids the road
walk.

>From Islip saddle, continue on the PCT (unofficial detour) to mile
388. Around mile 388, get off the PCT and continue up about 400
vertical feet to the top of Mt Williamson. From Mt Williamson,
continue NW along Pleasant View Ridge for about 2 miles to the top of
Pallet Mountain. This ridge walk has some nice views. From Pallet Mt,
descend ~700 vertical feet to Burkhart Saddle. At Burkhart Saddle,
take the official detour ~3 miles to the intersection with the PCT.

This detour took me about 2.5hrs from the time I got off the PCT at
mile 388 to where I joined the official detour at Burkhart Saddle.
This includes time spent futzing around with my maps and scoping
alternate options.
This is not a true cross-country route. There is a somewhat
established path that took me exactly where I wanted to go. There are
some campsites on the ridge that are somewhat protected from the wind.
There are steep ups and steep downs with loose rocky soil.
