[pct-l] mailing fuel and bear spray

Good morning, Alexandra,

Unlike grizzly bears, black bears found along PCT areas are not aggressive,
and except for certain habituated bears in California’s National Parks,
they are secretive and they make every effort to avoid human contact. Bears
don’t want hikers; bears want hiker’s food.

Using a bear ‘can in designated areas will protect my food; and in areas
where there are “wild” bears I sleep with my food sacks near my head. I’ve
been sleeping under the stars in black bear habitat since the mid-50s and
have never lost a morsel of food to them, and I certainly haven’t been
molested or threatened by a bear – not once.
