I carried the two pairs of socks.  I always took my shoes and socks off 
and pulled my liners out of my shoes to dry them out during my lunch 
break.  Also pull your shoe liners at night.  I used  Zeasorb foot 
powder in a small salt shaker to keep my toes dry and slippery.  Lunch 
is a good time to dry your down bag too, at least in the Sierra.
