[pct-l] Bear encounter before Kennedy Meadows

Thanks. For others, note that Ursack does also have a model for bears. They have had some issues with approval in the Sierra. Do your own research if interested. The bear version might be useful outside high bear areas.

OTOH I've used one in these areas and never saw a bear, so have no field experience with how they might survive.

To save Mendorider the time, odor proof Opsacks are a lightweight way to perhaps protect food where bears are less agressive. I've used them in Northern Cal.

The bag was an Ursack Minor, which is not specifically designed to keep out
bears. The company only recommends it for rodents. The bear ripped straight
through the side of the bag. We would have carried a bear can had we known
there are so many bears in the area before Kennedy Meadows.
