Hi Diane,
During my reading of your wonderful, interesting, and inspiring book, "Adventure and Magic", I recall your mention that the water at Six Horse Spring was pretty mean looking. That was, indeed, also mt observation too. The four hikers who were camped above on the PCT had told me of that before I rode down - they had filtered or treated. I decided to tie Primo near the pond and climb/hike down the canyon below the pond to explore. About 400 yards or so down I discovered a small place where I could camp ( flat room for just one small tent) with a small wet meadow. SURPRISE - I discovered that the meadow was fed by a beautiful spring, the water coming in from the side - not from the Six Horse Spring above. That is beautiful water, cold, clear, delicious. That is where I camped that night - very private.
I mention this because that water source will be of interest to some of my hiker friends.
HIKERS: I think all would enjoy reading Pipers (Diane Soini's) book.- it is a very well written journal. She carries you along on her hike.
