I think this is a perfect illustration of: (caps warning) "THE IS NO ONE RIGHT WAY, BUT THERE ARE LOTS OF WRONG WAYS!"

The key thing is, get out and try things, experiment, and understand and trust your equipment because you use it all the time!!!
I met zero-zero last year and I think I'd use him as high water: if you can't use your gear with your eye's closed (blind)
then you need to use your gear more often...camp out on your back deck and see if things work (you might look stupid but you
will rock on the trail due to EXPERIENCE!).
