Want to keep your bag clean but don't care for single use items?
Carry a bit more weight but gain multi-use functionality.
Carry merino wool long underwear - either 150 or 200 weight - top and
bottom. Long sleeve zip T tops give greatest flexibility. Roll up the
sleeves if too warm; zip down for venting when needed, up for warmth.
Icebreaker 150 LS zip T top = 6.88 oz.
Icebreaker 150 bottoms = 5.63 oz. (if you sleep warm)
Icebreaker 200 LS zip T top = 8.38 oz. (overkill except for Sierra & N.
Cascades)
Icebreaker 200 bottoms = 7.75 oz. (if you sleep cold or use torso pad)
Uses:
1. keeps your bag clean
2. extra insulation for sleeping or hiking
3. something decent to wear while doing laundry in town
4. gives you a spare shirt for when you get tired of your old one.
5. merino wool doesn't gather stink like synthetics. Makes it much easier to
hitch a ride.
