Shawna,

Given your concerns and desires for this trip, hiking Oregon seems spot on.

Oregon is definitely the least physically challenging section of the PCT,
which might make the transition easier since you consider yourself
currently out of shape. And, just because the trail has less elevation
gain/loss, doesn't mean the scenery is any less beautiful.

Three weeks would allow you to average around 23 miles per day. That
doesn't include considering for less miles hiked on town days.

Oregon is reallllly easy to avoid towns, but still get your food. You can
go into Sisters/Bend if you want, but it is easy to send yourself boxes of
food to the multiple camps/resorts scattered through Oregon along the
trail. Many hikers do this. The hardest part for you with this resupply
strategy will probably be that you won't be as dialed in to how you will be
eating, so it would be very easy for you to send yourself too little or too
much food. Plan very carefully!

There are also several sections within Oregon that receive higher use than
a lot of other places. You *will* see people in Crater Lake, the Three
Sisters and around Mt. Hood.

Good luck!
