Yogi, that is truly profound!
I have been compiling lists of songs for my thru in 2017. Many are Christians songs so, no particular memories attached, just that they evoke certain feelings. But for the other nostalgic songs, wow - I may enjoy them some but I really like your idea of tying that year's songs to that year's hike via radio. Thanks!

I recommend a simple AM/FM radio instead of an Mp3, and here's why:  During
his 2005 CDT hike, D-Low loaded all his favorite songs from the last
several years into his Mp3, and took that on the trail.  He thought he'd
want to listen to his favorite songs while he hiked.  After a few weeks, he
realized that there were already memories attached to those songs.  If he
listened to the radio while hiking, then he would hear the songs which were
current during his thru-hike.  If he listened to the pre-loaded songs while
hiking, then he was robbing himself of making new memories attached to new
songs.  Whatever songs were on the radio during the summer of 2005 now hold
memories from that hike.  Hope that made sense.
