[pct-l] Mt. Whitney Permits

Since I will be hiking the PCT this coming season and would love to summit
Mt Whitney I know I will need a permit.  The only issue I have had is that
you need an exact date to enter the trail, and that at the moment I cannot
say.  So my question is:  Can you apply for a permit when you get much
closer to Mt. Whitney, say a week or two in advanced? or will the permits
most likely have run out at that time? What are you experiences with this
issue? Thanks!
