[pct-l] Sleeping bag selection. Ahhh!

I did 2000+ miles of PCT and another 100+ of the CT with my 32 ounce Western
Mountaineering Sycamore MF (microfiber). It is conservatively rated to 25°F
and the microfiber shell is totally windproof and repels water (but it's not
waterproof). It is also available without a hood (the Alder MF), which saves
you 1 ounce. These are semi-rectangular bags, making them slightly wider
than a mummy. The shoulder girth is 62 inches, of which, as a rolly-polly
side sleeper, I take full advantage.

A big advantage for me is that in addition to a full length zipper down
whichever side you prefer, they have another zipper across the foot. With
both zippers undone, they open like a blanket or quilt. My wife and I have
spent several trail nights under it this way. I find it most comfortable
with the foot zipper open halfway. This lets me stick my feet out when they
get too warm and retract them as they cool. It also allows me to ventilate
the bag like a bellows with the side zipper fully closed.
