Rattler,
I would call Josh and Leigh Saint, operators of the Hiker Hostel in
Dahlonega, or Ron Haven, owner of a couple hiker motels in Franklin and
talk with them.  They could give you info about when they see a big bubble
of hikers passing through to give you an idea of when to be out with the
magic.  Ron also drives the shuttle bus that picks hikers up at Winding
Stair Gap.
