Again, I would recommend against a "protein" powder.  This isn't to you
Melanie since you seem to agree.

The #1 reason I go with a powdered drink diet is because it's something I
can actually consume in large quantities.  If I could make the diet work
that so many other long distance hikers use, I would gladly do it, at least
for some hikes.  Not being able to stuff enough of it down my throat is the
show stopper.  It's either I use a powdered diet, or I starve at
unacceptable levels.

The other reasons for a powdered diet is that it forces hydration, can
eliminate cooking gear and save time and hassle on the trail.  I personally
don't think any of those reasons combined is good enough to go with a
powdered diet.  I also find powdered meals utterly unpalatable on zero days
on or off the trail.
