[pct-l] AM I LOST???

Hal,
Since I never got lost, I can not predict how I would react, if I were ever
to get lost.
In the Scouts we always stress the following:
If you get lost,..."STAY PUT"..."DON'T WANDER AROUND",...sooner or later we
will realize you are missing and we will backtrack and find you.
If you wander around we may not find you because we will not know where
to look for you.

However, I can tell you how Karen, my wife, reacted when she got separated
from our group, on a Sierra trek, many years ago...she screamed...REINHOLD
...REINHOLD...REINHOLD.....
The poor girl was scared to death of being all alone in the wilderness, with
bears and flesh eating beasts all around, without Reinhold to protect her.
When I finally found her, with tears streaking down her cheeks, a sore throat
and all horse from screaming REINHOLD for 2-3 hours she just hugged me and
pleaded to not ever let her get lost in the wilderness again.

So you see Hal, Karen did not do anything particular brilliant, she just used
her head , heeded our advice by staying put, did nothing stupid, did what she
usually does when she is in trouble or distress, yelling......REINHOLD, was
fortunate to have me around and lucky that Switchback, the "Trail Pirate" was
not around.

Well anyhow, from that moment on, since Karen is not a good route finder and
can get lost rather easy, I always have Karen hike in front of me and
never let her out of my sight.

I treat my women right and take good care of them.

Yes Switchback,....what you are describing are typical old age problems,
however,........
[pct-l] You are still young Switchback...I can't understand why you
already have those problems.

I am much older than you but don't seem to have any of the old age problems
that you are describing, and I am still hiking strong

The funny thing,...sometimes when I'm on the trail I find myself wondering...
what am I doing here?....why am I carrying a pack?....where am I?.
Am I on the JMT or the PCT?,....or am I maybe on the CDT or AT????
Let's see now,....am I supposed to be going north or south...hhhmmm.

Am I lost?.....NEVER....I am never lost....not me,....not JMT Reinhold.
I may not know exactly "where" I am, but I am not lost...not JMT Reinhold.
I KNOW WHERE I AM....I am somewhere on the North American Continent...I just
don't know exactly where.

BUT I AM NOT LOST....NOT ME.....NOT JMT REINHOLD

I just hope I never get that "Oldz timers" (Alzheimer) that Switchback is
suffering from.

I've heard that with "Oldz timers" (Alzheimer) every adventure
is a new adventure.

Switchback replies: That is an excellent point.
The trouble is that the old heart starts racing. You get dizzy. You get
disoriented. You do not know if you are coming or going. You know you
feel good, but cannot remember why.
Out on the PCT that can be dangerous.
On a trike it is disastrous.
