Good evening, Ben,
I don’t find that adding clothing is anywhere as weight-efficient as
increasing the loft of the bag with a few more ounces of down. An
exception to that is a stocking cap. It’s easy to add ½ - 1 pound of
sleeping clothes or bag liner to avoid a few ounces of down.
On a cold night, if I don’t sleep wearing everything I brought, then I
brought too much; but that applies only to the fleece top and windshirt
that I carry anyway. It does not justify sleeping clothes.
Enjoy your hike,
