[pct-l] Judge suspends horse packing in national parks (Sequoia-Kings)

You are obviously unaware that horse poop is NOT a significant source of pollution. It does not contain the pathogens that are found in the fecal material of human, dog (the problem with dogs on the trail is that they don't dig cat holes, as hikers do. The next rain will wash dog poop into water sources. No I am not opposed to dogs on the PCT where they are legally allowed.), cattle, sheep, deer, and some birds. You can look this up yourself to verify before responding to what I have written. That is why I try to camp, whenever possible, in places away from where the hikers camp. Lakes and ponds and streams can be polluted when hikers go swimming. That is why swimming pools are chlorinated. I am very fussy about where I get my drinking water - and I rarely treat it or filter it.

It's about time.  There's nothing more damaging to a hiking trail than
horses.  And the horse crap and water pollution present a clear public
health threat.

However, this decision doesn't go far enough.  Pack teams and horses should
be barred entirely, whether private or commercial, at least in hiking trail
areas and their immediate watersheds.  But this decision is a good first
step in the right direction.
