At my age, and my current location (Michigan) I can only dream about hiking portions of the PCT again but it is at the top of my retirement bucket list. I was in California visiting family in October and while bicycling on paved roads in the High Desert, I kept stopping at Highway 395. Only when a traffic accident closed a portion of the highway north of Hesperia, south of Adelanto did I actually get to ride on 395. I learned its reputation as a dangerous highway is well-founded. Still, I am tempted to try the Sierra Cascades bike route one of these years, particularly around Independence. I will have to check it out some time in the future.
