Just to chime in on what Dittli was saying about the % differences between the pack in the north vs. the south as seen by us on the last trip over Forester...

Strangely enough, the pack seemed less deep south of Forester and more deep north of it as compared to last year in mid-May. Snow bridges are still intact at this point, which makes for easier going and the nights are still freezing or colder which not only delays the thaw but helps the hikers walk over the pack in the mornings.

Tahoe area is still frozen and receiving new snow storms at PCT elevations, but we are noticing rain coming in the near future for Lake level from all those storms lined up out in the Pacific!

Synopsis for all the current Thru Hikers: Don't delay! Get into the Sierra and have a blast, but be cautious, aware of hourly changes in the snow pack and surface conditions, utilize those snow bridges while they are still there, get across those creeks while their flow and volume are reduced, and ride those seated glissades as far as you can off the Passes!
