Hummingbird was awesome. We met up with her at Callaghan's near Ashland OR
and spent 2 nearos with her. She wasn't averaging 30 with some 40's thrown
in, she was running trail at over 45 to 50 per day with almost no time off
trail. The day we met her, and the only reason she came into Ashland with
us was to celebrate her first 60 the day before out of Saied Valley. She is
superhuman. Seriously. An ultra runner who doesn't do it once a month or
once a week, but everyday for months. She's one of those people who have
learned to run in such a way that she doesn't build up the same exhaustion
chemicals the rest of us do. She had a six pound base weight pack which
went up a bit for the High Sierra. Someone should use her for a study of
how she does it. Her regular training is a 50 mile run up Mt. Baden Powell
from LA, and down. Imagine 50 miles and 10,000 vert feet.

One great gal. She and I went into Ashland for dinner together (everybody
else just crashed) and we had ice cream, than a full dinner, then more ice
cream and a second full dinner, and topped off the evening with more ice
cream. She probably weighed 100lbs and ate as much as I did!

She may not be a good one to judge what most of us mortals are capable of
hiking, but she's a lovely person.
