Diane, I like to have 2 pair. I don't think I carry too much "extra" stuff.
I carry 3 pairs of socks for the same reason as you. I have 2 pairs of socks
so I can swap like the undies. The third pair are the sleeping socks, like
yous, they are never worn while hiking.

I saw someone else post about those injini socks. I want to try some.
