I have my heart set on hiking the Hayduke Trail this Spring, but I really
want to do it with a wonderful hiking companion. Might you be interested:
The Hayduke Trail is an extremely challenging 800ish-mile route through
the most amazing areas our desert sw has to offer (Arches, Canyonlands,
Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, Zion, Grand Staircase-Escalante,
Glen Canyon, ect).
Navigation by map/compass. Scrambling experience/comfortability required.
Strength to carry 3 days water + heavy food load (resupplies are few and far
between).
To be expected: flash flood danger, extremes in temperatures, strong wind,
deep river crossings, quicksand, exposure/loose talus/thorny brush, hauling
pack with rope, solitude/desolation, poisonous critters and ivy, need for
precision route-finding ability in confusing terrain, undependable water
sources, distant resupplies, lack of creature comforts,
drop-you-to-your-knees beauty.
Lemme know if you're interested, or if you know of someone who might be, and
we'll go from there.
Will be early March through June.
A little about me: I'm a 2009 PCT/JMT and 2010 Sierra High Route
Thru-hiker, and I did a section of the PCT in '08 and the Florida Trail in
'10. I've backpacked in the Grand Canyon, mountaineered in the Cascades, and
climbed at Smith Rock. I'm a Emergency Nurse in Portland, Oregon.
Long-distance backpacking with like-minded people is my passion. Nothing
makes me happier.
p.s. The CDT is also on my radar....... :)
