LOLOL, yeah, I hear ya Gerry. Seems like when I was getting back into
backpacking a few years back, my pack kept getting heavier, not lighter -
lol.

While I question the wisdom of it (in regards to grams/ounces) I typically
carry one 6" blue stick 30 minute. The blue is perfect for needing to read a
map in my tent, or basic trail navigation, or such. My primary light is a
Photon Micro-Light II LED. I plan to have one of the blue sticks in each
mail drop box. They weigh very little and if I should have to have one, that
way I will have one ready for me. I really do wish they made blue in 4"
size. I have been thinking about buying a case of the 4" orange, as the
smaller size appeals to me.

There was a short clip in the http://www.wizardsofthepct.com/ video that
shows a group of folks walking with a bunch of sticks on one night -- looked
waaaay fun!! (note: i love night hiking)
