Thanks much for the VVR road advice, Bill, and let me second the motion on
AsABat's repeater list (which is much more than just a list, btw).

Off list I've had some additional resources brought to my attention -

First, the Adventure Cycling Association's brand new Sierra Cascades
Route<http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/sierracascades.cfm>does a
good job of describing a road path largely paralleling the PCT and
crossing it some 25 times. I've got those maps now and they are great
because they also describe the road surfaces, traffic levels, etc as well as
some resupply and camping resources (thanks, Margaret). I'll have to add
onto this a good bit, but it's a fantastic start.

Second, Halfmile has brought my attention to a series of PCT day hike books
(e.g., this one<http://www.amazon.com/Day-Hikes-Pacific-Crest-Trail/dp/089997256X>)
which in the course of their business describe many ways to access the trail
by road. I'll be getting those too.

Very useful stuff.

Thanks all
