I think people are trying to tell you that there is no careful way to
use a highway flare out on the trail. If you don't have the good sense
to leave it home, perhaps you don't belong out on the trail. Hundreds of
people have successfully hiked the PCT without lighting flares. Let's
see if you can do the same.
