Hey, Sourdough,

Mtn Ned is an advocate of the Whippet both as a trekking pole and for self-belay
and self-arrest.  I don't know if many people use them.  I already had hiking
poles and didn't want to buy a new set just for the snow functions.  I borrowed
an ice axe from a friend here in JC for the Sierra.  I have since bought one,
which I would lend you except that I might be using it myself north of Sonora
Pass, depending on the snow levels in late June.

Take care,
Mango

First I ever heard about this. Neat idea!! I wonder if there is something made
one could simply attach the the top of their Leki poles for use when hiking in
an area where it could be needed. Too much to wish for maybe? LOL
