How about trail maintenence with a cooler of beer? Best of both worlds and both
of which the 2011 hikers would appreciate I am sure, I know I would! :-)

Subject: [pct-l] helping out

I'm a teacher living in LA (Orange County), and I don't work during
the summer. I would enjoy doing anything that would help PCT-ers and
that would give me an excuse to get out in the backcountry. If I want
to do something useful, either over the summer or on a weekend in
May, what would be a good direction in which to direct my energies?
Trail maintenance? Delivering a resupply package over Kearsarge Pass?
Handing out cold beer somewhere in the San Gabriels? Are there web
sites, etc., where people organize this kind of thing?

Hey, maybe if I did the beer thing and there was some left over, I
could drink it myself.
