Let me correct myself concerning the last post I sent about dogs in
national parks; I stated that horses DESTROY the trail, I should not have
said that, since they clearly do not. Horses ARE a valuable part of trail
maintenance and construction. My apologies. I do know that before the PCT
was the PCT, what is today the trail was originally designed to herd cattle
for grazing and graded for easier horse travel. What I should have said is
that horses have a bigger impact on the trail than do dogs. I am not
opposed to horses on the trail, I was just trying to make a point that
having a dog on the trail should not be banned (in National Parks). Mark
