Hello Jalan Jalan -

Your Palm Springs plan is a good one. Check out Halfmile's map of the area.
Go to page 9 of this pdf:

http://www.pctmap.net/iphone/ca_section_b_map.pdf

At the very top center you'll see a small white box "San Jacinto Peak -
10834 feet". To the right of that is a yellow square with text. Sort of
below and to the left of that square you'll another small white box
"Wellman Div". If you take the tram, the top of the tram is under the
yellow box at the top right of the page. you'll take the trail to Wellman
divide, then north up to San Jacinto Peak, then go east and join the PCT
near Deer Springs "white box "2SJTrail".

For a good map of the San Jacinto area, I recommend "Tom Harrison Maps -
San Jacinto Wilderness". You can buy it here:

http://www.tomharrisonmaps.com/online%20order.html

<http://www.tomharrisonmaps.com/online%20order.html>Scroll way down. It's
in the "Southern California" section.

Where will you intersect the PCT? That depends upon how you go down from
San Jacinto. Using Data Book mileage, the southern intersection is at
milepoint 180.5, the northern intersection is at milepoint 184.9.
Halfmile's maps have milepoints which disagree a bit with the Data Book
mileage, but they're usually pretty similar.
