It looks like you are going to Merced Lake via the lower trail that goes by Washburn Lake. The high trail is east of that and sort of parallels it. It hits the Lewis Creek trail above Merced Lake. It's a particular favorite of mine and the view of the Clark range from it is spectacular. But the trail you are taking is also beautiful. Hard to go wrong here!

The "plan" is to start at Happy Isles, go up Illilouette Creek Trail to Merced Pass Lake. Then over Red Peak Pass to the Triple Peak Fork trail. Then Merced Lake, Vogelsang, and Tuolumne Meadows.
What's the "high trail"?

This year, you WILL have a lot of mosquitoes in late July. I'd bring lots of
deet and a headnet. Try to find campsites on higher ground with a breeze if
possible. We are seeing more ticks so far this season (I'm at 5000') but I
don't know if there are any in the high elevations. If you are planning to
cross over Red Peak Pass (gorgeous!), you may want to see if it is snow free
by the time you go. In "normal" years, it is often snow bound into July. Will
you be taking the high trail?

The last week in July, I'm going to be hiking in the Yosemite backcountry for
the first time in a long time and the first time in this particular section.
Happy Isles to Illilouette Creek, across Clark Range to the Upper Merced
tributaries. Merced Lake, Vogelsang Lake to Tuolumne Meadows. Anyone have any
experience that time of year with mosquitoes and ticks? Or any thing else I
should think about?
Thnx!
