I finished my thru last year in the deserts, and found the worst tick spot
of the whole trip was the newly reopened Sheep Fire section.  There are
places where the dried weeds were thick in the trail, looked like old
mustard of some kind, and the ends of the twigs were at times covered with
ticks.  I must have picked several hundred off my legs in a half day.  The
constant checking of my legs really slowed me down.  Maybe the lack of
hikers for the year got them really hungry.  Anyway, spring is typically the
tick season in CA, I got quite a few on my legs just the past few days in
the Orestimba Wilderness, so I wasn't expecting to see so many of them in
Oct. finishing in So Cal.
