Hi, Jiffypop,
Here's my comments on your gear list. Some of this is redundant of other posts, which might tell you something about consensus opinion.
I did 1,000 miles on the PCT this year (Campo to Sonora Pass) before getting off due to injury. I've also done the AT. I still feeel like a novice on gear - learning new tips every time I go out or talk with other hikers.
soap & shampoo - delete
ball cap - switch to a wide-brimmed straw hat for the desert and even through the Sierra (snow reflection)
6 ft. of duct tape sounds like too much. Are you using a bounce box? If so, stick a partial roll in there. If not, you can still get plenty of duct tape in towns or from trail angels.
candles - delete
dishwashing needs? What are these, exactly? The NOLS approach is to swirl some boiling or very hot in the container after eating and drink it, instead of pouring it out (leave no trace, y'know). A little sand and running water also work, then wash everything well in town.
2 spoons and 1 fork - delete 1 spoon and the fork
plastic cup - I'd take it. I liked having hot chocolate or coffee with the main course or before, while more water was boiling.
Ipod and blackberry? Can't just one suffice?
rain cover - It's true that you might not need it in SoCal, but I did several times. I use a very light silnylon cover. My rain gear is also silnylon - very light and waterproof, but sweaty while walking.
NeoAir - I love mine, too. I also carried a cheap, light closed- cell foam pad, which was one of the most useful pieces of gear I had. It protected the NeoAir from puncture, gave extra padding for sleeping, gave extra insulation when sleeping on snow in the Sierra, was convenient as a sitting pad at stops during the day, didn't absorb water, was easy to clean off, and was puncture-proof.
Good luck.

Subject: [pct-l] Advice on Gear List
I'm not sure if anyone has posted something like this lately,
but I thought it might make for interesting discussion.
In particular, I'm looking for advice/suggestions/criticism
on my gear list in anticipation of an upcoming PCT thruhike
in the next year or two. Perhaps it will aid not only myself,
but also any other aspiring thru-hikers. Please note, my goal
is to get my baseweight down to about 15 pounds,
I'd be content with that. FYI, I hiked Canada's West Coast Trail
in 2005 with a 7 pound Kelty external pack and a 58 pound load.
I hiked part of Glacier's "North Circle Loop" for 4 days in 2008
with 28 pounds, and all of the Loop for 7 days in 2009 with 31 pounds.
I'm no "gram weenie", but I am getting lighter!
The list below is based on the first several weeks on the PCT.
From there, gear would be swapped in/out for other gear for
the Sierras, etc.
(Hopefully the text posts in a legible fashion...apologies if it doesn't).
