There really isn't a southern & northern required area.

You need it pretty much from entering SEKI in the south to leaving
Yosemite in the North.

So picking it up in KM south, and dropping it off in KM north works.

You could also pick it up in Lone Pine if you are resupplying via
Cottonwood pass.
