I'm NOT singling out Kevin here, but lots of people say this sort of  
thing before they start hiking, myself included, but they quickly  
change their tune. Simplicity, light weight and just less stuff  
becomes very appealing. This goes for batteries, electronic devices,  
water treatment, clothing, hygiene, resupplies, just about everything.
