Paul,
Did the C2C in July and really enjoyed it. It's roughly 11 or so miles and around 8k to Long Valley,
and another 2k from Long Valley (aka the Palm Springs Tram) to San Jacinto Peak. Conditions
are about perfect right now. Someone in pretty descent shape can get to the tram in 5 to 7 hours.
I took a few banannas and a PBJ, 3 liters of water and was good to go. Next time I'll drop a bike at
the tram parking lot, then go and park at the Art Museum. After ascending, the bike ride down will
be a blast. And save the 8 or so miles of walking.
The trail is easy to find. I have a google earth file with track and waypoints if you're interested. If
a storm hits between now and your trek, microspikes or similar might be good to have. There is cell
reception the nearly the entire length of the trail. Hard to see how one could get lost, but it does happen.
The scenery is breath taking, especially this time of year. Terrific restaurant at the tram. Leaving
slightly before sunrise works.
Of course, the usual warnings against the 90lb pack and eating McNuggets that are more than a
year old. |;o
Have a great hike!
