Its an extremly difficult route (note route not trail as its not an official trail and can be confusing for the 1st timer and it would be better to hook up with someone who has done it before).  People have died trying to hike it and SnR often has to rescue hikers.  Since you are coming from desert to Alpine, the temp change can be extreme.  Water is almost non-existant until you get to the Tram station.  Some start at midnight inorder to beat the lower elevation heat.  Its mainly hiked in the Spring and Fall as its too hot to do in summer and the winter brings dangerous icy conditons near the top that can last into the spring.
