"End of July to August."

That's the height of the fire season here in the west. Open fires of any kind are either tightly restricted (i.e. CA Campfire Permit, which is NOT valid in Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks) or completely banned. Although admittedly rare, you CAN be charged for all costs associated with fighting any fire you start. 

Enjoy the trail, but please skip the campfires altogether. We've seen too many trail closures and scarred landscapes recently thanks to careless hikers and campers. One need only look at parts of CA section D right now, closed because of TWO fires last summer.
