[pct-l] pocketmail

I called Verizon and had them walk me thru setting the phone to analog so I
could use it with Pocketmail. It worked at home. The Verizon guy told me
that analog sucked more battery power than digital, so don't use it that way
very long. That was several years ago (maybe 5). We decided we didn't want
to carry both Pocketmail and a cell phone, so we carried only Pocketmail.

On our last hike we carried only a cell phone. There was near zero coverage
on the ICT. We did not like the cell phone as a means of emailing journal
entries. I'm not sure if it was the email client program or the phone, but
it didn't make the grade.

We are still looking for a good solution that is relatively cheap. Both
Pocketmail and pay phones seem to be on the way out.

Someone asked awhile ago about the use of cell phones with Pocketmail.
Accoding to an insert I had with mine, it says,
"The PocketMail Composer is fully compatible with T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T
and Nextel digital and analog cell-phones. While using the PocketMail
Composer with Spring[t] and Verizon, we recommend you switch your cell phne
to analog mode, as transmission may not be reliable on all handsets in
digital mode."
I can vouch for the fact that PocketMail did not work with Sprint.
