In doing some sections (J, K, L) men's Patagonia 9 Trails running shorts 
(built in liner) worked good for me.  Had 1 pair or sometimes 2 pair (if 
I was making a town stop and wanted something clean to wear there).  
Otherwise, rinsed out shorts in a kettle of water each night (no soap - 
another thing to carry) and changed into to the stuff I slept in - smart 
wool micro weight underwear.  The 9 Trails usually dried overnight after 
being spread out on a tree limb or bush. No irritation or fungus or gunk 
issues.  They stood up to abrasions, snags, and the usual trail wear and 
tear.
