My success rate over the years has been pretty good with several years being right on, several a few days off either side.  Your best strategy is to take anything you read here with a huge dose of salt and pick up every piece of info you can gleam off of the internet before you leave and from the trail, trail angels and rangers on your way from the border north to readjust your timing.
