What about if I postpone my leave date til July 15th? Any thoughts on the
likelihood of being able to hike north from Kennedy Meadows then without too
much snow?

Other than the SoCal desert, north from Ashland area is probably your best
bet and even that is iffy. You could probably get as far as a few miles
north of Hwy 140 before hitting snow about 6-7000 ft.

Annie Springs cam at Crater Lake South Entrance (6000 ft) ... this might be
melted out by early July:

Crater Lake Rim cam (7000 ft) ... the upper photo doesn't look too bad, but
look at lower photo and see how the snow depth dwarfs the cars parked there
... that ain't melting out anytime soon.

The Crater Lake North Entrance road is closed again after being open all
week, so something is happening up there. If you go this way, consider
hiking the equestrian trail.
