Subject: [pct-l] Hiker Hosting in San Diego

I am very sad as I announce I will not be able to host hikers this year. I
have had a grand time hosting the 500 or so hikers who have become friends
staying with me and getting a good start at the trailhead monument. I will
truly miss the enjoyment of hosting, the excitement of meeting new friends
and the satisfaction of seeing them off at 5:45am. I will not miss the
abject fear of driving highway 94 in the dark and fog. Ask anyone who has
ridden with me. If you were planning on staying with me this year, I can
assure you the San Diego hiker hosting community is more than willing and
able to take up any slack left to them by me. There are any number of
cordial hiker hosts who do a far far better job of taking care of hikers
than I ever did. They are easy to find, and since I lack their permission
to post their email addresses, I will have to leave the hikers on their own
to find their trail hosts, which is just part of the PCT experience.

Good luck and happy trails to the class of 2010. Bob Riess at the Trailhead
in San Diego.
