Greetings,
I have run into this issue at Ridge Trail Hiker. Depending on their advice, I am using a process similar to Halfmile and Postholer. It respects the copyrights of the vendors I use and provides as much information as possible to the site visitor. If there is a better way, I want to know it.
Erik raised an interesting issue about costs. I'm going to own a mobile telephone anyway. And its purchase price and monthly fees are pretty much a fixed part of my financial burden. The few times maps are needed, they can be printed and carried. Otherwise I'm thinking of carrying (again) an iPhone: email, journal, camera, GPS. Oh. And telephone! Just think. I can pre-load all the important town information and have access to local maps. Amazing. Now. If I could just figure out how to use Esbit tablets to recharge it.
Like someone said in Lynn Wheldon's early PCT video: "There's a trail two feet wide and two thousand six hundred miles long."
Walk well,
Jim Keener ( J J )
